Faenza Ceramics: A Rare Collection of Works by 20th-Century Ceramic Sculptors

The collection presented here, consisting of more than seventy works of twentieth-century Italian art in ceramic, stoneware and terracotta, bears witness to the high level of quality achieved by ceramic sculptors in the Faenza area.
From the delicate statuettes of children by Domenico Baccarini and his Symbolist bas-relief Il bacio (1901), to the Gothic-Expressionist decorative relief plates by Pietro Melandri, the lustre-glazed vases of the Bottega Gatti, and the powerfully sculptural relief figures by Angelo Biancini, a pupil of Libero Andreotti, culminating in the exquisitely refined modern abstraction of Carlo Zauli.
These ceramics reaffirm the value of the Italian sculptural tradition within the broad field of the applied arts.
